- The person should have worn the foot gear in a state of ritual purity (tahara). If he put on thick socks after washing his feet before completing Ablution, then wiping them later will be permissible only if he completed his Ablution on this occasion before any Filth (hadath) came up.
- The foot gear should cover the ankles (fard place to wash).
- Each of the foot gear should be free of hole of the size of three smallest toes or larger. Conditions related to thickness
- The foot gear should hold on to the legs without a need of tying.
- The foot gear should prevent outside water from percolating to the feet.
- It should be possible to take consecutive steps (3 miles) wearing the foot gear (without difficulty or tear).
- One cannot be in a state of major impurity. (i.e. permissible for the one doing wudu but not ghusl).
